The Rev. Dr. Daniel Justin - Rector

The Rev. Dr. Daniel Justin

In 2012, Father Dan was called to St. Michael and All Angels from the Diocese of Chicago, where he had served as the Assistant Rector at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Park Ridge, Illinois. He earned a Doctor of Ministry in Biblical Preaching from Luther Seminary, a Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary, a Master of Arts in Communications from Lindenwood University, and a Bachelor of Science from Missouri Baptist University. Father Dan was sponsored for ordination by All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills and was ordained as a priest in December of 2009 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Park Ridge, Illinois. Prior to his ordination, Father Dan spent fourteen years working in higher education administration, including positions as Director of Admissions at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles and Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles. He is originally from Missouri and grew up in the St. Louis area.

The Rev. Patti Sells - Deacon

The Rev. Patti Sells

The Rev. Patti Sells began serving as Deacon at St. Michael and All Angels in the spring of 2017.  Deacon Patti comes to us from the Diocese of Olympia (located in Washington state). During her  14 years in Washington, she served as Deacon in two different parishes.  She also regularly traveled with the Bishop of Olympia for visitations. Rev. Patti was ordained in the Diocese of Utah in 2001.  Her ministry has included running a food bank, developing a cold weather shelter and meals program serving unhoused members of the community, and beginning a street ministry which provided shelter, clothing, and other basic needs.  Rev. Patti has led numerous women’s retreats and serves as a spiritual director.

Diane Ballowe - Children's Pastor

Diane Ballowe

Diane began serving as our new Children’s Pastor on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Originally from Illinois, she moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to be near her two adult children and four grandchildren and became a member of St. Michael and All Angels shortly thereafter. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Western Illinois University and a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University with special certifications in Reading and English as a Second Language. She had a 35-year career as an elementary school teacher for children in kindergarten through fourth grade as well as serving as a Reading Specialist. A life-long Episcopalian, Diane has taught Sunday School throughout most of her life and has been a volunteer in the Sunday School program at St. Michael’s for the past ten years.

Mark Gaddis - Parish Administrator

Mark Gaddis

Mark Gaddis began serving St. Michael and All Angels as Parish Administrator in the summer of 2017.  After moving to Los Angeles in 2001, Mark spent a number of years working in real estate and property management.  He grew up attending church regularly, and eventually began a seminary education in the Southern Baptist tradition. Ultimately he chose not to complete seminary. He is excited to return to ministry related work after many years working outside the church. Mark enjoys exploring other interests, including acting in theater, film, and television, as well as running half-marathons.  A native of Kentucky, Mark has lived in Texas, Tennessee, and New York.  Mark holds a bachelor of arts degree from Berea College located in Berea, Kentucky. He is a member of Hollywood United Methodist Church.

Dr. David Connors - Director of Music

Dr. David Connors

David is a State University Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment and works at the California State University Chancellor’s Office. Prior to this position, he was a Professor of Music at California State University, Los Angeles for twenty-eight years. He has a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, a Master of Music, and a Doctor of Music Education. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, he taught elementary general music and choir in Minneapolis and New York City. In Los Angeles he has sung with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, was a soloist with the Los Angeles Bach Festival, and now sings with the Independent Opera Company and with Tonality, a professional choral ensemble dedicated to social justice. He is a member of St. Michael and All Angels, has been singing with the choir since 2006, and has been the Director of Music since 2015.

Duane Steadman - Organist

Duane Steadman

Duane Steadman serves as Organist for St. Michael and All Angels.  He holds two degrees in organ performance from Colorado State University. Duane retired from the position of Parish Administrator in September, 2017 after serving in that capacity since 2005. For the previous ten years he worked in the finance department of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles located at the Cathedral Center of St. Paul in Echo Park, California.  A native of Colorado, he was confirmed in the Episcopal Church in 1976.
